I had a doctor’s appointment yesterday and had to pay a $20 copay before the visit. Then, when I checked out the receptionist asked for more money. I was in a hurry and paid it. Now, I’m wondering why I had to pay more than my copay.

It all depends on what type of insurance you have and the benefits of your plan. Be sure to compare the statement you receive from your insurance company (Explanation of Benefits or EOB) to the billing statement you receive from your provider. The EOB will show you what your responsibility to the doctor should have been. If you have overpaid, CALL the doctor and ask for a refund. They do NOT automatically refund you. If you have any questions, I am happy to help.
