Find a Question:
Disputing a doctor’s bill?

I have a question regarding my mom’s visit to the doctor. She just recently changed doctors and this new doctor told her she should get various lab tests done and an ultrasound because insurance would cover it. Insurance did not and we ended up paying for it. The doctor’s office then refuses to tell us the results of the ultrasound over the phone or send it to us like other doctor’s offices so we had to come in for a second office visit (and my mom had to miss work to go). They assured us this second visit was free, and we checked again before leaving the office whether we owed any amount and they said no. Weeks later we get a bill from them for the second visit. We called to see why they had billed us yet told us we wouldn’t be. They hanged up on us.
Is my mom responsible for the amount? If not, what should we do?
Thank you so much for your time.

Hey, I’m really sorry to hear about your awful experience… A very similar thing happened to my sister a few years back and she really got in a huge mess. She tried to deal with it alone but the bill just kept growing until she decided to call a lawyer who works with insurance companies so he knows all the tricks and loop holes.
