I’m trying to find out if my credit will be affected by not paying a medical bill.

This is a hard question to answer. Yes, your past due medical bills can show up as a negative mark on your credit report. But, a lot of creditors view past due medical bills with a little sympathy. Therefore, they are often over looked.

I’d be interested in hearing what other people think on this issue.

Yes if they turn you over to collections. Note: if you pay any amount on a regular basis, even if $1, they can not turn you over. Once in collections, it does show up on your credit report.

Yes, your credit will be adversely affected.
You need to call all your creditors (hospitals and doctors) and communicate your situation with them. Ignoring a problem will make matters worse.
